We are now in our fourth year of conversion to a sponsored academy, and we are going from strength to strength! As you can see from our website, our ethos of Scientific Enterprise is having a significant impact on the learning experiences our students are being introduced to and is contributing to the enrichment curriculum within and beyond the classroom. By focusing on the learning attitudes of Resilience, Reflectiveness, Resourcefulness and Reciprocity, our students are developing crucial life skills which will support their journey through to University and beyond.
We have improved our headline 5A*-C (including English and Maths) by 26% in our opening two years, and our A Level results have improved year on year also. We are very proud of our year 11s and the fact that so many have decided to enrol in our Post 16 provision is testament to their loyalty to our academy.
We have had the pleasure of welcoming young ladies to join Harris Academy Beckenham; therefore we are co-educational in Years 7, 8, 9 and in Post 16. Our recruitment drive proved to be exceedingly successful as we were oversubscribed for both Year 7 and Year 12.
Our OFSTED Inspection in July 2013 judged our Academy as ‘Good’, a remarkable achievement under the very challenging parameters of the new framework! The full report is available to download from our home page; however some of the key comments published note the following: ‘behaviour is transformed’; ‘outstanding progress’; ‘teaching is good and improving’; ‘every student has an equal chance to succeed’. We are very proud of these results, but are determined to raise this result to ‘Outstanding’ when we are inspected again!
The plans for our new build are developing swiftly, and we will ensure that we update the website with plans and designs as they are agreed. We are hoping to open a primary school on our site also, starting with two classes of reception age children; we will confirm once planning permission has been finalised.
